Divide and Rule people over Religion | Divide and Rule businesses via Free Basics |
Rule through Indian Kings | Rule through Service providers like Reliance, Airtel |
British promoted how they are improving India | Facebook promoting Free Basics will improve India |
How does it affect you?
According to Free Basics, you will be allowed to use only Facebook and a few other partner websites for free. Small Startups which have the potential to build the next life changing products could die an early death because Facebook gets to choose the products/ideas which it wants to get promoted. Imagine you set up a business and want to promote it over the internet, which is controlled by Facebook, only to realise that it got blocked since there was already a competitor partnered with Facebook.
For example, if Free Basics were launched in 2010, then Whatsapp would never have been so popular as 'Facebook Messenger' would have been free, while you would have had to pay data charges to use Whatsapp, Hike or any other messaging app.
Net Neutrality is ‘Real’ Digital Equality
Net Neutrality is the principle that Internet service providers and governments should treat all data on the Internet the same, not discriminating or charging differentially by user, content, site, platform, application, type of attached equipment, or mode of communication.
